Are Battle.net servers down? What causes Battle.net connection errors?

Blizzard games have connection issues

In this period of prevention against COVID-19, video games were one of the best companions for people staying at home. Therefore, an interruption of online services would spoil the good time. If you play Blizzard and Battle.net titles, you may have connection issues. So, you should know that they are not due to problems with your Internet, but with Blizzard servers.

The problem intensified today at 7:00 p.m. Mexico time today, March 17, when more than 23,000 reports were recorded on Downdetector indicating that Battle.net was not working.

What causes these connection errors?

According to Blizzard, these are authentication issues, but didn’t specify details. Although server’s saturation wasn’t mentioned, many gamers thought that these problems were due to an increase in traffic since many people stayed at home as an alternative measure to face the epidemic coronavirus (COVID-19).

However, Blizzard has just confirmed that the problems are happening due to a DDOS attack on Internet providers, which is wreaking havoc on game latency and connection. And they are currently monitoring a DDOS attack against network providers that affects latency.

Amid the possibility of an epidemic of coronavirus, video games appeared as an alternative to the entertainment events that were canceled and, as a result, generated a sharp increase in the use of the Internet for to play.
